Your driving lesson records

How your instructor uses LicencePath to manage lessons

Your instructor decides why and how to keep your pupil record. They are the controller of that record. Rainfame Technologies Ltd operates LicencePath and processes these records on their behalf, under the instructor data processing terms.

Optional lesson emails

Your instructor first records that you agreed to lesson reminders at your own email address. You then confirm using the button in the email. No account is needed. You can stop reminders and cancellation emails using the link in every email. This does not affect your lessons.

Changing your email, contact arrangements or assigned instructor, or archiving your record, ends that choice. Starting again needs fresh agreement and confirmation. We keep the wording and dates of those choices and delivery results with your record. Contact details and stored email content are removed when your record is redacted, and reminder history is deleted when the record is purged. Temporary request limits are removed after 30 days.

What your instructor keeps

Your name, optional contact details, lesson arrangements, bookings, lesson records, skill assessments and payment records. Your instructor may also keep private teaching notes. You do not need an app account for your instructor to keep these records. Adding you does not create an account or send an invitation.

Who can use the record

Your assigned instructor can manage the record for their business. A parent or guardian’s contact details do not give them access to your records. Young people, including pupils aged 17, can ask about their own information.

Copies, corrections and deletion

Ask your instructor for a copy, a correction or deletion. If you contact LicencePath support, we will route your request to your instructor. They can export your record and remove contact details and lesson notes from an archived record. Payment facts and your name are retained for tax records.

When your instructor archives your record, your contact details and teaching notes are removed 2 years later. Your name, lesson dates and payment records are kept until 6 years after your last lesson, or until 31 January 5 years after the tax year of your last payment if that is later, and then the whole record is deleted. Your instructor can keep a record longer if it is needed for an incident or claim. If you are unhappy with how your information is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
